If you somehow haven’t already seen it already, you might be interested to know that Sony finally took the covers off of the next generation Playstation Portable (PSP) at an event in Tokyo today. It’s been all over Kotaku, Joystiq, Engadget and every other major gaming and tech-related site owned by Gawker, AOL, FOX, CBS and what have you. Sadly, we haven’t received a lick of information from Sony on the new handheld yet, so rather than post all of the information those other sites worked so hard to gather, I’ll just suggest that you click the links above after perusing this quick breakdown of the major information.

Sony is currently calling this PSP the Next Generation Portable (NGP) and, according to Kotaku, boasts that it’s “as powerful as a Playstation 3”. It’s got built-in Wi-Fi, 3G, will use flash-based media for game storage, includes a front and rear camera, a touch-sensitive screen and back panel, tilt sensitivity, plus a built-in microphone to accompany the stereo speakers. It’s bigger than any other current handheld available, excluding the Nintendo DSi XL, but, thankfully, features two analog sticks (finally!). It’s scheduled to release in Japan this holiday season.
